Nintendo A Cappella

A friend of mine showed me a video clip recently featuring a group of a cappella singers doing a little Nintendo medley. I watched the clip again the other day and it just keeps getting better with each viewing. In the wasteland which is the Internet, this is an oasis. Come my friends and drink of it...

Quicktime or Windows Media (slightly larger...same video quality though)

The group is called Redefined and they're affiliated with the University of Wisconsin. You can find their page here. In case you're wondering what they're singing:
1) Super Mario Bros. "Flag/Stage Clear"
2) Super Mario Bros. Main Theme
3) Dr. Mario
4) Super Mario Bros. 3
5) Mario Bros. "Star"
6) Tetris
7) Mortal Kombat
8) Mario Bros. "Dungeon"
9) The Legend of Zelda
10) Super Mario Bros. "Game Over"

A big pat on the back goes to the following site for all the links and the list of songs.

That is one happy flower.

Cricket

The most exciting thing to happen to the game of cricket....ever!

(Personal note: I used to work with an Indian contractor, who apparently was quite fond of cricket. I remember him coming in one morning and telling me how he was up late watching a game. He said it's not unusual for some games to last 6 to 8 hours. Oh the humanity!)

Adobe Buys Macromedia

Hmm... Now Adobe's going to own FreeHand, its main competitor against Illustrator, AND Flash. Interesting. Well, if history proves correct, it will be ok. Adobe bought PageMaker from Aldus some time ago and did it justice, so I'm not too worried. Will be interesting to see what happens to FreeHand, tho. I'm guessing it will whither up and blow away in the wind.

My New Job

Here's a brief article that describes the project I'm working on. There's more to it than this, but you get the general idea:

The Genographic Project

I just found out about this via a mass email from our CEO. Apparently, IBM is teaming up with the National Geographic Society for a "five-year research partnership to deepen our understanding of how the human race populated the planet." Here's more:

The Genographic Project has two main components. One is the collection and field
analysis of DNA samples from more than 100,000 members of the last remaining
indigenous populations on the planet -- compiling one of the largest DNA
collections ever assembled. In addition, we're inviting members of the general
public to take part by purchasing cheek swab kits and submitting their own DNA
for analysis. Individuals will then receive customized genetic maps with
specific details of the migratory paths followed by their own ancestors.
It looks like the kits available to the general public are $107.50 (including S&H) but it looks like I can get them for $83.90. If anyone is interested in getting one and wants to work out something, drop me an email at righteousdork@yahoo.com. They're a little pricey and I'm not sure I can afford to do it right now, but this sounds like an awesome opportunity to learn a little more about your roots.

Casshern

Wow! You've got to see this. It looks like a live-action anime version of Tron. That's the first thing I thought of while watching this trailer. If you don't have Quicktime, there are a couple of other options available at their website.

Microsoft to Show Off New Xbox on MTV

I'm lazy today and I've got work to do, so.....(Insert something witty about how Microsoft is evil and MTV is evil, and that when the two come together, it's a sure sign that the end of days is upon us.)

DDR Home Simulator

If you like DDR Dancing, check out this free download game of StepMania. Basically, it's a home version for your computer. You can be simple like me and use the keyboard keys, or go all out and make your own dance pad as shown on the picture gallery. DDR....not just for kids but for lazy grown-ups who want to enjoy all the moves without really moving!

DDR

...it's for the kids.

Wow. Good press for a videogame. How refreshing. For Christmas, my wife and I bought the EyeToy:AntiGrav bundle for our nephews and I got to tell you...it's a workout. You're swaying your arms around a lot, crouching, and jumping. Good times.

Quite possibly....

the dumbest thing you will see today.

Mulholland Drive Revealed

Do you like David Lynch movies, even though you have no idea what the hell is going on with the plots? Are you thinking there has to be an artsy fartsy meaning to these insane and sometimes nerve-racking cinematic images, but can't seem to put it all together? I watched Mulholland Drive tonight and thought holy crap...this is the strangest movie I've ever seen. What the hell is going on in that movie?

The answer is here
