Spider-Man 3 Teaser Trailer

Right here. I was afraid the teaser would be really lame with maybe a shot or two of Spider-Man swinging around in a black costume. I'm glad to see I was very wrong. For the record, it's actually Spider-Man NOT Spiderman. I apologize for the grievous errors made in the following post.

Now with that said, here's what you need to take away from the teaser. Spider-Man bonds with this black entity, which in the comics is an alien symbiote. The symbiote actually becomes his costume and provides him with organic web shooters. This symbiote eventually bonds with Eddie Brock and becomes the villian known as Venom. It's important that you realize this thing is BAD NEWS. Like "The One Ring", it has a tendency to corrupt the individual who bonds with it. My guess is that we will see this thing bond with Spider-Man and watch as our favorite web-crawler spirals downward, losing the people he loves in the process. At some point, he will redeem himself and say "Adios" to the symbiote, which ends up bonding with Eddie (played by Topher Grace). If my knowledge of canon is accurate, Eddie resents Parker for his photog skills and this anger fuels the symbiote, thus creating a bad mamma jamma. The inclusion of Sandman is a nice bonus and will allow for some nifty particle effects.

I think it's also worth noting that Peter isn't dancing with some random female. That has to be Gwen Stacy, and if you don't know what's going to happen to her, I'm not going to ruin it for you. Without a doubt in my mind, this movie is going to be the darkest of the three and quite possibly the best of the trilogy. With all that's going on in the film, it wouldn't suprise me to see The Lizard in there as well. All of this could lead to a Spider-Man who is physically and emotionally broken. And suffering is good entertainment. Yee-haw!

News From The Comic Book Shop

So the word on the street is that Superman was a 2 star stinker at best. John, give us a review already! The hardcore dorks are saying that the title of the movie should have been "Lois Lane Angst". I've heard there's like 2 action scenes in the whole movie, and that it was basically a re-write of the first movie. I've also heard that they portray Lex Luthor as a bumbly, comical bad guy like he was in the first movie and NOT the criminal, sinister mastermind from the comics. Hopefully John's review will settle my nerves on this one.

In other comic news, Marvel's newest multi-title, mega super secret war, infinity crisis on infinate earth storyline - called Civil War this time around - is trudging right along. Once every other year or so, Marvel does something like this to kill a bunch of people off, change a few characters in hopes of improving sales figures and re-invent some of the weaker titles. The latest news is that Spiderman has now gone public with his identity. The rumor is that by the end of Civil War, either both Aunt May and/or Mary Jane will be killed due to this decision to go public. Supposedly Joe Quesada, Marvel's Editor in Chief, has it out for the Mary Jane character, saying she has made him too soft. It's his plans to return Spidey back to the lonely, confused, suffering character from the sixties.

Or course you realize none of this means a damned thing. Remember the Death of Superman? Remember when Bane broke Bruce Wayne's back and left him paralyzed? Anything can be undone. Just like in soap operas, where people can come back from the dead, get shot in the face, get burried alive and return from the grave...all before lunch with Granny, mainstream comics (and wrestling) is just as bad.

When: Friday, June 30th 10:15pm
Where: Regal Cinemas in Hamburg Pavilion - Lexington, KY

Come on out and get your geek on! I'll be the one sporting the Superman bracelet.

Aerial Photographer Focuses on Hawaiian Coastlines

This is a pretty nifty article. Brian Powers has taken it upon himself to photograph and catalog the Big Island's coastline. Having spent part of my honeymoon on the island, I can vouch for its "awesomeness". It's like something right out of The Twilight Zone, because there are areas that are lush, vibrant, and "beachy", but there are also parts that conjure up images of Mordor. If you ever find yourself in Hawaii, I highly recommend a trip to the Big Island. It's very driveable, the snorkeling there is superb, and Volcanoes National Park is unlike any other park in the world.

This is the hotel we stayed at on the island. Our room was on the right and had an awesome view of the water below, where sea turtles frolicked among the rocks. A lot of the coastline in our area was like this. Not exactly ideal for swimming like a lot of beaches but very good for snorkeling, if you get out far enough.

Heroes

NBC has a new show coming out this fall that deals with normal people discovering that they have extraordinary powers. This show has me more psyched than the 3rd season of Lost, and I haven't even seen it yet. If you're a fan of M. Night's Unbreakable, then this show looks like it's right up your alley.

For me, these kind of stories hit me on a personal level. I know it's crazy but I still have dreams that maybe one day I'll be hit by lightning or some alien pulse and wake up to find that I can fly or run fast or do long division. Don't you ever have days where you wake up and feel like you're here for some higher purpose? What if you are? What if you had powers that set you apart from others? Would you use them for personal gain? Would you help right the wrongs of this world and fight to balance out the inequities?

Here is a nice collection of cast photos. You can bet your sweet ass that I'll be keeping everyone up-to-date on this new series.

What would you do with $40 billion?

Well apparently Warren Buffet is giving it to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Man thats a lot of money.

Hydrogen economy? Not likely...

The big talk about town lately has been the emergence of an economy based not on oil but on hydrogen. Scientists, economists and politicians all hype it up as the "solution to foriegn oil". Well thats great and wonderful but the majority of engineers out there know that the technical problems with hydrogen are not going to be overcome anytime soon.

Heres a quick and easy article based on a book written by a couple swiss guys knocking hydrogen technology down a peg. Its not very technical and can be understood by pretty much anyone. I really hope most of these hurdles can be overcome because fossil fuels are pretty much killing our planet and is the cause of most of the strife world wide at this point.

Clips from Superman Returns

There's a whole page of YouTube goodness right here. Nothing real spoilerific unless you don't want to know where Superman has been. It's not exactly Earth-shattering news or anything like that.

I think it's safe to say that this movie is going to be RED-HOT and that's primary color RED not crimson RED. If that makes me a fanboy, then so be it. I will be attempting to corral various groups of people into watching the movie, so be on the lookout for that post later this week.

Monk-e-Mail

Low brow humor at its finest. Dress up a monkey and have him/her say anything you want. You can record your own audio but what fun is that. The text-to-speech option is where it's at. Stay away from contractions. They get jacked up when spoken. Don't becomes something like "daunt". Here's some particularly crude examples of what one can achieve with said technology:

More Chromehounds

Ive been whoring this game out I know but its finally getting close to release. The game went gold yesterday and looks like its going to hit its July 11th release date.

Heres a multiplayer preview which rocks too.

See you on the battlefield

A Letter to Ann Coulter

Sincerely, Henry Rollins. WARNING: Page contains language that Ann Coulter might find offensive.

In case you don't know, Ann Coulter has recently written a book called "Godless: The Church of Liberalism" that has caused some controversy. From what I understand, she picks on some of the women who lost husbands in 9/11 and goes on to describe how they've become puppets for liberals or some crap like that. I don't know. Politics is a lot like watching zombies fight over someone's bowels. It all boils down to lifeless bastards fighting over a bunch of crap. That crap sustains them though. It's what drives them.

Spiderman Unmasked?!?

THIS IS HUGE. I just finished reading "Civil War #1" yesterday and I liked where the story was going. I had no idea they were going to throw this at us. Spiderman revealing his secret identity is HUGE folks. I honestly thought he would be on the side with Captain America and maybe the X-men. Needless to say, I'm psyched about what's going on. It's a good time to be a dork.

Anyway, I've been reading Mark Millar's work in Ultimates 2 and I've really enjoyed it. He's got a way of sneaking current topics and various social issues into comics without hitting you over the head with it. I usually don't get into the big crossovers with Marvel, but they've really strived to create an event here that is accessible to everyone. You should be able to read just the "Civil War" books and get a story out of that. If you want to go "all in" and pick up the tie-ins, then you can go that route as well. If you want to know more about the series before jumping in, check out the wiki on it. WARNING: Page contains spoilers. If you're just looking for an issue checklist, go here.

New Blue Man Group Tour

This news is hot off the digital presses. I just refreshed my inbox and found this little gem:

HOW TO BE A MEGASTAR TOUR 2.0 ANNOUNCED!

Blue Man Group Hits The Road

We’re thrilled to announce that Blue Man Group is going back on the road this fall. Following up the critically acclaimed Complex Rock Tour which rolled through the United States and Canada in 2003, the How to be a Megastar Tour 2.0 kicks off in Reading, Pennsylvania on September 26th. Expanding on the "Rock Concert Manual" concept from The Complex Rock Tour, this time around, the Blue Men download a new "how-to-manual" that takes the audience through a uniquely clever and interactive show that guarantees to deliver hypnotic entertainment for all ages.

Exclusive Pre-Sale Information For You!

Although tickets go on sale to the public starting July 21st, subscribers of Blue Man Group’s email list will be sent a very special invitation to purchase premiere tickets before then. On July 17th, we’ll be sending subscribers the exclusive password and links that can be used for securing up to four of these premiere seats in every price range for every venue listed below.

The Blue Man Group fan pre-sale starts at 10am local time on July 18th and runs through midnight July 24, 2006 only. Premiere pre-sale seats are limited so make sure to be on the look out for the email on July 17th. We hope to see you on the road!

Tour dates and locations can be found here. I have spent at least a couple of hours trying to post the tour dates in this entry and it's just not happening people. I don't know if it's an issue with the way Blogger displays tables or what. All I know is that it creates about a page and a half of nothing before it shows the table. I've tried everything I can think of with the HTML and it just isn't working...so a link will have to do.

Anyway, my wife and I saw Blue Man Group in Chicago several years ago and were blown away. Their stage show is unlike anything I've ever witnessed. It was a synthesis of sights and sounds that is beyond description. The experience was tribal in nature. You really felt like you were plugged in to what was happening. Needless to say, it was fantastic and truly original in every sense of the word. Fast forward a couple of years and BMG is out on "The Complex Rock Tour". There were limited venues though and I ended up missing that show. Thank goodness for DVD. The performance was like their stage show made portable and fine-tuned for a mainstream audience. It went beyond being a simple concert yet remained accessible to the general populace. Of course, I am bias though.

If you'd like to learn more, head on over to www.blueman.com.

Tico Man Returns

We just flew in from Costa Rica and less than 8 hours later, I had to hop on another plane to fly back to Orlando (because you all know how terribly dedicated I am to my work...haha). The trip was incredible! We hung around the pool and beach most of the sunny days and on cloudy days, we hopped in the 4 x 4 and ripped across the country, exploring and stopping in small villages along the way. We kept it pretty unscripted and didn't step foot on one tour bus or speak to any professional guides. We drove up a volcano and experienced the mud baths and hot springs and on one day, we took a trip through a rainforest on what the locals called “The Monkey Trial”. Luckily the 4 of us speak enough Spanish to be comfortable with the locals. We picked up a couple hitch-hikers in a rain storm and even purchased gasoline from an old man who had a stockpile in his shed! He measured it off with a coke bottle! The infrastructure there was a little lacking as far as roads, buildings, bridges, etc but the culture, wildlife and scenery was spectacular. The longer we stayed, the more we loved it.

We stayed in a beautiful condo in Playa Ocotal along a cliff side next to a black sand (volcanic) beach with a spectacular view of the Pacific. Off in the distance, you could even make out parts of Nicaragua. The restaurants were awesome and we drank enough Imperial Beer (official beer of Costa Rica) to kill a family of elephants. We took plenty of pictures and film so I should have a photo site up as soon as the naked shots get released from immigration and customs and I get a few minutes at home.

This week however it's Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, TN (www.bonnaroo.com) where us and 9 friends are going camping with 150,000 hippies, listen to over 80 bands spanning 4 days and try to sleep it off in my brother's camper, which should be stocked full of booze and naked people before Thursday.

Where you're from...

A while back I posted a fairly hilarious rant about peoples heritages. Well I havent responded yet with my actual background. While organizing my office (a task which failed miserably) I found a book which I have always held very dear. Its a history of the town I grew up in back in Germany. It covers the history of the town from its founding up through the early 90's. When was the town founded you ask?

Try 790.

Thats right this town is almost 1000 years older then the United States of America. The town doesnt boast any celebrities who were born there, or amazing landmarks which everyone must see. Its just a town on the road between Frankfurt to the south and Giessen to the north. But its the town which deep down I will always consider home. Its the only town my grandparents ever lived in. Its the town my mother was born in. Its the town where many of my uncles, aunts and cousins still call home.

So come check out the town of Nieder-Wollstadt.

For a small town in Germany it has a rather nice website. Even though its in German you should try clicking some of the links until you get the pictures section (HINT: click the Bilderbogen link).

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter

When I bought my Xbox 360 a few weeks ago I had to decide what game to get with it? After some looking and studying I settled on Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. Another game in the long line of Tom Clancy based shooters Ghost Recon started out as a squad based tactical shooter on the PC and has now moved on up to the newest of the new on the Xbox 360.

The first thing you notice when you boot up GRAW is how amazing it looks. The graphics are mind numbingly great. Mexico City serves as the backdrop for the game and I have never seen a city rendered so well. The place actually feels like a thriving metropolis with streets, alleyways, high-rises, overpasses, slums, and open plaza’s. Unfortunately there are no people to be found which is odd since Mexico City is one of the most densely populated cities on earth. The game of course explains this is because a major coup is going on and there is gun fire in the streets. As a nice touch you can here loud speakers warning civilians to stay in there homes and way from the windows. Very nicely done if you ask me. Most games would simply strip the life out of a city and just leave it at that. The visuals are farther enhanced by the superb lighting. Heat radiates off of buildings and the roads, the sun glare blinds you at high noon and in the evenings everything has a soft glow that would be very pretty too look at if you didn’t have Mexican rebels trying to blow your brains out. The characters are very well animated and move fluidly and believable.

On the sound front there is nothing which I can think of which can compare. Maybe its because Ive recently hooked up my receiver optically and am taking full advantage of my 5.1 surround setup but I have never felt so immersed in the audio of a game. Car alarms blare when you shoot cars, you can hear your teammates yell commands, and the rebels scream at you in Spanish when you open fire on them. Explosions have a loud bassy boom to them that really makes that tank you blew up come alive.

Speaking of teammates the AI is a bit more of a mixed bag. As the leader of a squad of “Ghosts” you command three additional troops who are here to help you fight your way through this military coup. You command your troops and additional support vehicles through the Cross-com which is a heads up display which shows you what your teammates see. It works great for scouting and giving commands. You order all three of your troops around at once so its not possible to set up elaborate ambushes but it simplifies the process greatly. Your soldiers are fairly accurate without being overpowered and will kill their fair share of enemies you run across. Certain situations will lead to a few cases of brain farts. I found this true when I was hiding behind cover and ordered my troops to come to me and take cover. Most of the time they would do it right but a few times they would run up and surround me with one of two of them behind cover and the rest standing in the open. Enemy AI is pretty good also. The Mexican rebels use grenades to flush you out, take cover and try to outflank you making them tough nuts to crack. They employ the full bag of tricks too ranging from snipers to tanks meaning you will have to adjust quickly to a variety of situations as they arise.

Controls in the game are generally very tight. The game is set by default in a very close up third person view. Only the head and shoulders of your guy are visible leading to an almost FPS view point and the game controls much like one. The biggest control scheme in the game is the cover system. When you run up to a wall or other barrier which you can hide behind you press your back up against it and the view shifts. You can now peek out over or around the sides of your cover to get a view of whats out there without hopefully getting your face shot off. The system works very well, if your behind cover you tend to be fairly safe from enemy fire as long as they remain in front of you. However if you keep sticking your head out to open fire on them they zero in on your position and plug your brainpan. You have the option of firing normally or using a tightened aiming mode which slows your movement but is more accurate. Toss in a wide range of weapons and you will always have a new way to liquefy bad guys.

The storyline is great and the single player campaign is very enjoyable. It’s a tad on the short side taking me about 7.5 hours to defeat. A lot of the missions involve some trial and error as you figure out how to best defeat a group of enemies. This usually involves a lot of dying and reloading but progress never feels slow. After a couple tries at a certain obstacle you can usually beat it and move on. This game truly shines in multiplayer. The options and game modes are unmatched. From coop to deathmatch and everything in between if you can think of a game mode GRAW has it. All the modes are linked over Xbox Live so bring your friends and kill each other or work together in the Co-op campaign mode. Multiplayer controls much looser than the single player mode. You lose the take cover feature, and spend much more time running and gunning, but its still to your advantage to stay behind things and not put your dome out in the open for too long.

Overall GRAW gets two thumbs WAY WAY up. I would consider this a must have for any new Xbox 360 owner.

Blog Mall - #1

New segment brought to you by your friends at Allstate. Are you in good hands? You better be, dillwad.

If we're being totally honest with each other, I have something to confess. I love to shop. You can put me in Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Circuit City, Lowe's, or Meijer and I will literally kill hours. I'm talking full-on "time genocide" people. I will go up down each aisle and scrutinize everything from truck flaps to dustpans. Clothes are about the only thing I don't like shopping for. So with that said, I present the following products for your perusal:

  • Lost Action Figures. Series 1 will include the following characters: Jack, Kate, Locke, Hurley, Charlie and Shannon. Follow the link and check out the sneak peek of Charlie's figure. I think you will agree that it's top-notch. I love this show and can honestly see myself getting some of these.
  • Yoda Backpack. Do I have to spell it out for you? It's motherlovin' Yoda riding around on your back. That shit is red hot, son.
  • Corepad Deskpad. It's like a big ass mousepad that doubles as a deskpad. I took it upon myself to go ahead and convert the dimensions, since millimeters aren't really my thing. It's 35.4" x 17.7 " x .118". We're talking super thin folks.
  • Wow!Pad. If you like the idea of having a super thin mousepad, but don't have the desktop real estate for something as large as the Corepad, then I definitely recommend these. I use the Tech Large pad on this page and I absolutely love it. Office Depot is the best place to get them and I recently purchased another one to keep in storage. Just in case this one catches fire or is abducted by aliens. I didn't want to take any chances. I'm able to comfortably use two mice on the pad and here's an action shot for reference:

  • Sumo Beanbags. Urban lounge gear for the modern slacker. Makes me tired just looking at it.

And that concludes our first foray into the chasm of consumerism known as BLOG MALL! I hope everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Vacation

Me and the wife haven't taken a trip since our honneymoon 6 years ago. Thanks to crappy businesses and even crappier jobs, we've been fighting an uphill battle until I landed a job playing video games with the Army. Now that things are better, we're going on an actual vacation next week to Costa Rica. I plan on rallying the village rebels to join my revolution. Look for me on the news in a Khadaffi hat and sunglasses!

Actually I hope to try the zip line tour through the treetops of the rain forests and spend the day tanning at the base of an active volcano. Other than that, its all fun and relaxation. Supposedly, the healers of the area claim the air is filled with negatively charged ions that are great for the body. Here's a bit more info as to where we're staying.

True American hero...

This man is a true American hero. He served his country in the marines and helped to rid our streets of the wretched scum which infest it. Good riddance to this worthless piece of shit he helped eliminate.

Uno!

Yes Gordon and I bought the full version of Uno! as you can see from our gamercards. It's fun! Here's a beta test video of how the game will work with the XBLive webcam that goes on sale September 19. Sweet!
